Apprently he was formerly Tobi's sensei, and Tobi was last seen giving orders to Pein.
Zetsu is also the only member of Akatsuki with no pair. (like Itachi/Kisame, Deidara/Sasori, Hidan/Kukazu ect..)
So far we haven't seen one member of Akatsuki insult Zetsu. Not even Hidan said anything after Zetsu mocked his religion.
I'm wondering if Zetsu is possibly a superior in Akatsuki? I hope some more info on him is released soon.

From what I have heard, Zetsu is a higher up in Akatsuki, mainly because he, besides Tobi and Konan, was the only other member to deal with Pein directly. If this along with what else you are saying means Zetsu, not Tobi is the real leader is yet to be known, but he is not likely as when he met with Pein, he did not show any signs of being his superior. Also, Tobi is Madara, as it has now been made fact by Pein, who referred to him is Madara in a recent manga chapter(383 I think.)and if Madara is alive, he would most likely be the leader due to his power and intelligence.

Yeah but that's what makes it weird... Zetsu is Tobi's sensei, and since Tobi is Madara, that means Zetsu must be one of the strongest in Akatsuki... and it also must mean he's like 200 years old...

Good point, however, Zetsu may have been Tobi's sensei, but he may have not have known he was Madara, and like the rest of Akatsuki under Pein, thought that he was the "good boy" Tobi, and have trained him, thinking he was the childish kid he pretend to be, and not the powerful, evil, shadow leader he is. As for the age thing, being a plant/human hybrid thingy, who knows how long Zetsu can live, I mean, some trees can live for hundreds of years(quite rare, but it can happen.), and Zetsu, being a plant, may be able to as well.

I believe Zetsu is the strongest of them all. He is mysterious, and no one really knows much about him. His plant over rules his own judgement, and he is usually mocked by his own plant. No one else will insult him because the plant does it for them.  |

I think Zetsu is more a coward than a powerful ninja compared to the other Akatsuki. He only spies and he never steps in to fight. I don't know if a powerful person would do that when an ally is losing to an enemy... @_@
I reckon he gave Tobi a new body, hence why he claims to be his "sensei". After all, Tobi = Madara as kyuubi rightly said, and that automatically makes Tobi the one in charge. Zetsu probably introduced the other Akatsuki to Tobi, knowing who he really was. I think Zetsu is the second in command in the Akatsuki...

Zetsu really creeps me out. the fact that he eats humans and has two Personalitys makes him special. also being able to go anywhere and record what happens makes him a powerful person.

As of now, Orochikis has it the most right. Zetsu more or less is the second in command in akatsuki, or at least in the upper ranks, along with Pein and Konan. However, leader he is not, t as that honor belongs to Madara.
