After watching this many times this is the conclusion i have come to.
I have the same mixed feelings here. On the one hand, the execution isn't very well done, so it doesn't feel quite right, and of course a time travel jutsu doesn't seem likely. On the other hand, I could very easily see this as a possibility, the formula actually isn't bad at all, and when you think about it this wouldn't be the conclusion to the series, just the primer for the end. It would mean eventually, once naruto worked his way through akatsuki members and regained his friendship with sasuke, he'd fight his older self. During the battle his older selve's emotions would stir and he'd explain why, and in the end, his younger self would be so stubborn that he would somehow even convince himself like he's convinced so many others - "I can do anything, believe in me"
Only problem? Newer chapters (that thing was released in February) completely destroy the possibility of this theory, since the motivations of the leader are revealed, along with his appearance.

Ok go ahead call me a nerd or something but i found another reason why this is wrong. They said he sensed that Yondaime was still alive. However Orochimaru attempted to resurrect Yondaime from the dead in his battle against Sandaime Sarutobi. However, the resurrection of Yondaime failed because Sarutobi managed to counter the summon, Yondaime is dead.
